A woman's voice was given to the robot by the system designer. No name was given to the robot for many months after the addition of the voice.

During a campusradio HERTZJUNIOR live interview with the system designer, the teenage kid reporters asked if the robot had a name. The system designer said 'Not yet. Can you suggest one? It needs to be a woman's name, due to the female voice.'

The kids listed several of their favorite female names, from which the system designer responded on-the-air: "Your suggestion of `Michelle' sounds good." And so Michelle is the name of the GRAVIS robot...
